Cookies on Prezly sites

There are numerous ways past and current Cookie Laws can be interpreted, some customers' legal teams want this to be as strict as possible while others take a more pragmatic approach.

To be able to support all of you and allow you to follow your own internal compliance rules, we have different cookie settings.

Site Privacy Settings

Found at "Sites > your_site > Privacy". There are three different modes that determine how cookies are handled on your Prezly site:

Strict:
No cookies get set by default, after the cookie bar handling, we will proceed with setting the cookies according to the user preferences.

Normal:
Essential cookies get set by default, and if we get permission to load "First-party Analytics" we will also those cookies accordingly.

Lenient (only allowed for internal sites):
Only for intranets, sets cookies and doesn't show the cookie bar, but this is not compliant according to GDPR, so only set this if you know what you're doing.

Cookie settings choice can impact user experience
E.g. If no third-party cookies are set, we will not load embeds like YouTube directly within your story (as they set cookies) instead we will redirect people to the YouTube site itself.

Both in Strict and Normal mode, Prezly will load a cookie bar, giving visitors the ability to set their cookie preferences.

When clicking 'manage preferences' there are extra controls to determine which cookies you want to allow or reject:

If your site uses the OneTrust integration, we will load the OneTrust cookie bar instead.

Customization

The cookie policy can be customized to your own policy or a link on your website. This feature is only available in premium and enterprise plans.

Different ways to customise the cookie policy:

  • The default Cookie Policy (linked from Site settings)
  • Your own link
  • Your own custom text
Privacy Policy settings (site settings)
Privacy Policy settings (site settings)

This is the Policy that will be linked from within your Cookie bar. It is your responsibility to make sure the Cookie Policy is compliant to the cookies that are being set, as you might load additional cookies through other integrations that you've decided to load, like for example Google Analytics or through Google Tag Manager.

If you're using OneTrust to handle your cookie settings, Prezly will follow its settings and load the cookies people allowed there.

Make sure to enable the "SPA setting" to ensure best experience when loading the cookie bar. It's best to set your Cookie setting to "Strict" that ensures full compliancy across every situation.

The cookie bar statement can also be customised on premium and enterprise plans. Go to site settings > privacy to update the cookie statement.

Site Settings > Privacy > Cookie Statement
Site Settings > Privacy > Cookie Statement

These settings will affect the text displayed by the cookie banner when first visiting a that Prezly site:

Different Cookies and Categories

In this article you can find a description of the different types of cookies we store and why.

We have three types of cookies:

  1. Analytical cookies that store anonymous information about your browser (unique identifier) and where you come from. These cookies are used to identify recurring visitors and provide reports on traffic sources.
  2. Personal cookies that contain a unique user id for your session. The user id is set by injecting a unique identifier in every Prezly email campaign and passed on when you click a link. These cookies are used only when we have consent to share personal data and are only shared with the integrations you have enabled on your site
  3. Third-party cookies are cookies set by third parties, such as hCaptcha (verify site submission) or for other integrations you have enabled on your site.
