Feature Insights: Jebsen & Jessen - How JJSEA uses categories to structure their newsroom
JJSEA Corporate Communications Manager Anthea Ho explains how she uses categories to make it easier for journalists to use her content
Hello and welcome to another feature insights, a series of bitesize videos to help you make the most of your Prezly subscription.
Today's topic: newsroom categories.
Categories help you organize your stories, so that anyone visiting your newsroom can find what they're looking for easily and without frustration. As Anthea Ho, Manager for Corporate Communications at Jebsen & Jessen Group will tell you, it's all about catering your content to your audience.
"We decided on our categories mainly based on audience profiling. So it’s really about who we want to reach out to. ... So obviously, [the category] 'press releases' is a whole section that's targeted specifically at journalists and media contacts for our PR and media engagement purposes," says Anthea.
"Our 'stories' category features a lot of employee stories, engagement, stories that reflect our corporate culture and values. So these are stories that we publish and sometimes link it on our social media."
Each category gets its own URL address, so you can link journalists to specific topics within your newsroom.
Of course, the way you use categories is completely up to you – and the great thing is, you don't need to have them all worked out right at the start. In fact, it can be more helpful to begin using your newsroom first and then seeing which common themes are appearing in your stories.
It couldn't be simpler. Just head over to your newsroom settings and create whatever categories you want that newsroom to use. The next time you create a new Story – or edit an existing one – you will be able to select the categories you created earlier.
Each story can belong to multiple categories, which visitors will be able to navigate easily through the menu at the top of your newsroom.
If you create a story and don't assign it to any particular category, that's fine too – it will still appear on the main page of your newsroom.
That's it for categories! If you want to learn more about any Prezly features, head over to our Help Center or speak to us.
Please note: the categories feature is currently only available under Prezly's Premium & Enterprise plans.
